Female Education in Bangladesh

Education is a light to which everybody has the equal right. Education is the backbone of a nation. The prosperity of a country mainly depends on the education of her population. About fifty percent of the total population of a country is female. A country cannot expect her prosperity avoiding this large part of population.

No nation can progress without educated mothers. Allah has created both man and woman equally. They are like the two sides of a coin. One is incomplete without the other. It should be imparted equally to both men and women. Our religion has also made education compulsory for all.

Every woman is a potential mother. Mothers’ women play an important part in moulding the character of their children. Education of a child greatly depends upon its mother.

An educated mother would able to bring up better than an uneducated mother. A mother exercises an undeniable influence in the formation of children’s character and in shaping their future destiny.

Lives of many great men of the world show that their greatness was due to their mother’s influence.

The role of women is making a home an abode of peace and happiness is great. A good housewife is an asset to the entire family. She can keep accounts; control and guide servants and take initiative in many domestic matters. She can maintain the discipline of the house.

In conjugal life a women can help her husband. For this purpose a women has to be educated. An educated wife can take an active part and help her husband in the greater filed of action.

In the past, our women folk were confined within the four walls of home. Parents did not allow them to receive education.

An educated husband can never have free exchange of ideas with an ignorant wife. Life would be dull and unhappy for them. Frequent quarrels may result from such a lack of understanding. So female education is essential from this point of view.

Parents also thought it waste of time and money to educate their girls. They did not understand that if girl children were educated they could be as competent as male children.

Early marriage, religious misinterpretation and the narrowness of our outlook created bar to the path of education.

All necessary steps should be taken to encourage universal female education. Education for girls up to degree level has been made free with a monthly stipend. More schools and colleges for girls are being set up to spread female education. If a mother is not educated, the child is not taken care of properly. So, all of us should come forward to spread female education.

We need good wives and good mothers to make our nation great. It are a matter of great delight that women have started to come out of their cocoons. Being educated, they are advancing forward and joining a wide range of professions. They have already been able to prove their abilities.

They are also becoming successful in establishing themselves in every arena. They have become successful in exposing their talent in politics. They are becoming self-dependent day by day.

There are some people who are strongly opposed to the female education. They think that women’s only duty is to do household affairs, rearing children and ministering to the comforts of there male partners. For this reason they say it is useless to educate women.

We cannot think of the progress of our country avoiding our female. So all necessary steps should be taken to encourage female education for the survival of our country. It is a matter of joy that our government has already taken different steps for the expansion of female education.
